Patrick Rance

The Great British Cheese Book
Macmillan 1985 reprint pb 168pp 215mmx135mmx250gms po inscr.fp isbn0-333-35900-3 168 pages inc. index.A wonderful guide to the many varieties of British cheeses. Each area of Britain is covered with a listing at the beginning of "extinct cheeses"! This book is literally a feast for the eyes and after reading it i was getting the munchies for some cheese. In South Wales there is a wonderfully strong "Colliers' cheese" which I heartily recommend. Morris the Butchers on Broad Street, Blaenaon stock it. In fact i recommmend Morris as a wonderful shop for fresh meat and other provisions.  maps, line drawings, index. The classic work on British cheeses. acclaimed as the finest introduction to cheese and cheesemaking - past and present - throughout Britain, The Great British Cheese Book celbrates all the rich variety of our traditional cheeses that offer so delicious an alternative to the plastic-wrapped stock of the supermarket cold counter
